What You Can Experience at the U.S. National Whitewater Center

The U.S National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is one of the largest outdoor recreation centers in the USA. The center is located in Charlotte, NC and it is a facility for kayaking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking. Official US canoe and kayak Olympic teams come here to prepare for big events and competitions.

History and Organization

The Center is opened on November 4, 2006, and since that time, many changes have happened in the overall organization. Water cleaning and filtration systems were improved, especially after the death of a park-goer teenager in June 2016. After the incident, the Center was closed for visitors, but it was reopened again in 2017.

Over 12 million gallons of water are cleaned every day by the filtration system. The entire portion of the river has 3, 750 feet where two main channels make the river adequate for Olympic slalom and wilderness adventure.

Both channels are powered by 680-horsepower pumps that water the channels simultaneously. In these conditions, it is possible to use the channels for rafting and kayaking at the professional level.

Many other activities are popular at the USNWC. Mountain biking is possible for all types of bikers, from amateurs to professionals. Over 35 miles of trace and many difficulty levels attract visitors. At the same time, the rock climbing options make the Center one of the best outdoor climbing centers in the world. There are also activities like zip-line rides, sky bridges, and aerial challenges. The Center includes almost all outdoor activities on land and water.

There are a lot more options that are part of the USNWC. Food and beverage offers are available for all visitors. River’s Edge, Pump House Biergarten, and The Market are the restaurants where you can relax and enjoy some of the most popular food and beverage choices.

The Center is also the place for festivals that are important parts of American history. Therefore, you can celebrate Memorial Day or Green River Revival when you are at the Center on some important dates. Other activities like outdoor yoga classes invite many visitors to be part of a healthy lifestyle during the visit.

Activity Passes

You can buy special Activity Passes at some affordable price. A one-day pass is $59 for an adult who wants to try some of the available pass activities. Deep Water Solo, Ziplines, Jumps, Ropes, Kayaking, Hiking and many other options are included. The Center opens the doors for all ages and experience levels. All the people, from the young amateurs to the older professionals can enjoy the Center’s facilities. An Annual Pass costs $199 and it is available for 365 days from the first use.
